First Alpharetta High School Football Player to make NFL Training Camp

Alpharetta High School has thousands of athletic students come through the school since 2010. One of these players was a 6”3 184 pound TE named Michael Bennett who was ranked number 151 in Georgia of class 2010. His size didn’t intimidate anyone on the field but his size didn’t stop him from playing the game he has always loved. His talents and success for football started when he reached Alpharetta High and so did his name.

Bennett was not the biggest one on the field but his work ethic changed many people's opinion of him . He had many people that doubted him at the time, not knowing the type of future was planned for him at the end. Bennet had trust in himself and continued to work hard for his opportunity

“I worked with Michael Bennet all through high school and I’ve watched him improve everyday on and off the field. I was his receiver coach at the time and he would always try to out work all the kids on the team. He was very obedient and coachable and would never be satisfied with what he was good at, he always want to improve so he can become the best.” Tracy High, Alpharetta football coach, said.

Bennett made goals every year before the season and would do anything to try to accomplish the goals he sets for himself.

“Bennett came to me with multiple goals he would like to accomplish during the season and he would always want me to hold onto them and have me hold him accountable to them. I don’t remember not one day I had to remind him of his goals, he would never slack off during practices and games. He always had the burning desire to become great and be the best anyone has ever seen.” High, said.

Bennett was known as a student athlete when he was playing football. He had a strong core GPA which set him in a great direction to success without football. He worked as hard as he does on the football field and also applied his work effort in the classroom.

“He was a great student and would offer to help anyone who was in need. He was very respectful to the coaches, always saying yes sir or no sir and he would do anything to help. His manners are taking him far in life and during the time he didn’t know that it would. He would only do it because it was showing the sign of respect and it’s something he has always done since he was little.” Coach Smith, Alpharetta football coach and health teacher, said.

Bennett is adjusting to the life of the NFL while he is currently at the Bangles as he was signed undrafted free agent. Bennett was unable to make the team as he was released on cuts during the last preseason game.
